How to Disable Push Notification on Desktop and Smartphone

Most of the browser today supports push Notification. Every time you visit a website, it will ask you if you want to get the desktop notification. And probably we all said yes when a site proposed for the push notification. Likewise, whenever you enable the push notification from your mobile browser, the browser will display information in your notification panel. And most of the websites misuse these features to get traffic to their site. And we have grown tired of getting these notifications that take up our entire notification panel on our mobile and disturbs us when we are surfing the web-browser or doing some important tasks. So you might be looking for a solution to disable push notification whether on Desktop or Smartphones.

In case you are feeling overwhelmed, today, I have come up with an article that will guide you to turn off the browser push notification on your computer and mobile phone.

How to Disable Push Notification on Desktop Browser

You might be using a different browser than mine, so I have listed the steps to disable push notification using browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge, and Opera.

Chrome Browser

  1. Open your Chrome Browser and tap on the three vertical dots on the Title Bar of your browser. Then tap on Settings from the drop-down menu.
Or simply add this link to your Address Bar: chrome://settings/ in a new tab.
  2. Now, scroll down the settings page and click on the Advanced tab on the bottom of the settings page. This will display an additional setting on your window.
  3. Next, look for Privacy and security panel and click on Site Settings under Privacy and security panel.
  4. Now, from the Site Settings page, look for the Notification tab under Permission and click the Notification tab to open the notification settings.
  5. The notification settings page will display a list of website URLs you have subscribed for notification under Allow.
  6. Now, look for the URL that you want to unsubscribe to stop getting notification from that domain.
  7. Click on the three vertical dots under the domain and select Remove or Block to stop getting the notification.

There you go, now you will not receive any notification from the site on your google chrome.

Firefox Browser

  1. Launch your Mozilla Firefox browser and tap on the hamburger icon (menu icon) on the upper right corner of your screen.
  2. Now, select the Options gear icon from the drop-down menu. This will open the General Settings page on your window.
  3. From the left sidebar of your settings page, select the Privacy & Security tab to open the Browser Privacy Settings.
  4. Now, scroll down the Browser Privacy until you see the Permission option.
  5. Click on the “Settings…” button right beside Notifications under Permissions.
  6. Now, a Notification Permission window will pop-up on your screen, which has a list of websites you have subscribed to.
  7. Click on the website you want to stop getting notification from and click the Remove Website button.
Likewise, if you want to turn off push notification from all the websites, click on the Remove All Sites button.
  8. Finally, click the Save Changes button on the pop-up window.

Microsoft Edge

If you have been using Microsoft Edge on your Windows 10, not Edge is also compatible with the push notification, which wasn’t there in the previous version of the Edge. So, let’s learn how you can turn off push notification on the Microsoft Edge browser.

  1. Launch your Microsoft Edge browser and click on the Settings and more options (the three dots on the upper right corner) from the edge menu.
Or you can use the keyboard shortcut Alt+X.
  2. Then click on the Settings option from the Settings drop-down menu.
  3. Scroll down the settings bar and look for Advance Settings.
  4. Under Advanced Settings, click the View advanced settings button.
  5. Now from the advance settings, click on Manage Button under Website permissions.
  6. Now, you will get the list of all sites that you have subscribed to. These sites are allowed to send you push notification.
  7. Next, select the site by clicking on it and toggle off the Notifications to disable state to disable push notification.
You can clear the permission, but clearing the permission will allow the website to ask you to enable the notification again when you visit the site.

Safari Browser

  1. Fire up the safari browser on your Macintosh.
  2. Now from the safari menu, click on the Safari option and click on Preferences. This will pop-up the Privacy setting dialogue box.
  3. Under the privacy settings, click on the Websites tab.
  4. Now, under the General tab on the left sidebar of the Privacy dialogue box, scroll and click on Notifications.
  5. You will get the list of all the sites you have subscribed to and are allowed to show the alerts in the Notification Center on Safari.
  6. From here, you can Allow or Deny the sites to send you to push notification. Or you can select the website and click on the Remove button to remove the site from the list. Doing so will allow the site to ask for permission again when you open the site.

Opera Browser

  1. Launch your Opera browser and click on the O menu from the upper left corner of your screen.
  2. Now click on the Settings from the menu list, or you can use keyboard shortcut Alt+P.
  3. Now from the left sidebar of the settings page, click on the Advanced tab.
  4. Then, scroll down the advanced setting and click Site Settings.
  5. Now, from the Site Settings, click on the Notifications tab.
  6. Look for the site you want to disable push notification on the Allow panel.
  7. Now, click the three vertical dots on the webpage and select Block. You can remove the site, too, but the site will ask you to allow the notification when you open the site.
So, it’s best to Block the site from sending you the push notification.
